India's government has moved to revoke the part of the constitution that gives Indian-administered Kashmir special status, sparking outrage in parliament.

Article 370, which grants the Muslim-majority state significant autonomy, is sensitive because it defines its relationship with India.

The entire region is disputed between India and Pakistan. Each claim it in full but only control parts of it.

The move is expected to spark unrest.

Thousands of Indian troops had been deployed to the region ahead of the announcement and tourists were told to leave.

There has been an insurgency against the authorities in Indian-administered Kashmir for three decades, with tens of thousands of lives lost.
