„რესპუბლიკელების“ მიერ კონტროლირებულმა სენატმა ახალ წელს გამართა სესია, რაც იშვიათი შემთხვევაა და წარმომადგენელთა პალატის მიერ კენჭისყრაზე გასული კანონის შესახებ დებატების შემდეგ „თავდაცვის ეროვნული ავტორიზაციის აქტს“ უყარა კენჭი და 81 ხმით 13-ის წინააღმდეგ კანონს მხარდაჭერა გამოუცხადა. კონგრესის ორივე პალატაში პრეზიდენტის ვეტოს დასაძლევად ხმების 2/3 იყო საჭირო.

შეერთებული შტატების თავდაცვის უწყების 2021 წლის ბიუჯეტი 740 მილიარდი აშშ დოლარით არის განსაზღვრული.
