Australian politicians are almost always opting to fly with Qantas on taxpayer-funded trips,
despite Virgin offering cheaper tickets.

Federal MPs flew with the national carrier for 80 per cent of work trips last year despite it not always being the cheapest route, according to
travel data provided to the government.

While politicians and their staffers are required to book
the cheapest flight, it also has to be the most efficient, with Qantas offering the most routes between major cities.



MPs are banned from accruing frequent flyer points on taxpayer-funded trips like ordinary Aussies can, but they can can receive
lifetime status credits, which allows access to airport lounges and flight
upgrades.

'How else can one explain the extraordinary dominance of Qantas in securing bookings by parliamentarians and their staff?' Myriam Robin wrote in an opinion piece for
the Australian Financial Review.

'There's nothing like accruing status credits on someone else's dime.'

Transport Minister Catherine King has since committed to a
review of flight bookings by government officials which will be conducted by
the Department of Finance this year, despite
there being just two months left of 2024.

Politicians' preference for Qantas may also be put down to the airline's exclusive invite-only 'Chairman's Lounge'.

Daily Mail Australia in August revealed that nearly every
single federal politician in the country has accepted free membership of the
club.

Qantas and the Albanese government have both denied the airline enjoys
any disproportionate level of influence over the country's political classes.



A Daily Mail Australia audit of the members' interest registers - in both the House of Representatives and the Senate
- revealed almost 93 per cent of the nation's leaders have been 'gifted' membership to the lavish, all-inclusive lounge.


The high profile ranks of government giftees include Prime Minister Anthony Albanese as well as every member of his 22-person Cabinet,
his seven-person Outer Ministry and all 12 assistant ministers.


While most politicians declared their Qantas' privileges as a 'gift', Labor MP Marion Scrymgour listed her membership as
her 'Chairman Lounge entitlement'.




Daily Mail Australia in August revealed that nearly every single federal politician in the
country has accepted free membership of Qantas' exclusive Chairman's Lounge.



And it's not just politicians on the take, with more than 60 MPs - including Marles, Chalmers, King, Bill Shorten, Zali Steggall and Tanya Plibersek - disclosing their spouses have
also been granted unfettered, independent access to Qantas' luxurious members only lounge.


Often touted as 'the most exclusive club in the country', membership to the Chairman's Lounge has long been veiled in secrecy.


Even the entrances to each of the country's six opulent VIP clubs
- in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth airports - are suitably discreet.



Though, once inside, the designer lounges are immediately more
ostentatious, with free à la carte fine dining, table service, a decadent selection of
wines and Champagne and a discreet army of dedicated lounge attendants.


Membership to the club is 'priceless' - it cannot be bought for any amount of money nor obtained via any amount of frequent flyers points.


Instead, each member is hand-picked and approved by the company's chief executive and chairman.

Australians have discovered an unlikely pop-up store offering shoppers 'incredible'
deals on clothing, homewares, food, and electronics.


The temporary Vinnies locations have been set up around Victoria to help shoppers get through the cost of living crisis ravaging the country.


Vinnies, or the St Vincent de Paul Society, is a charity that works
to provide support and assistance to people in need.


Most items are brand new stock donated by corporate partners including Christmas
decorations.

Popular bargains include $10 large jars of Biscoff, $2 bags of Red Rock Deli chips, and discounted shoes from Boston Bros. 

Shoppers will find men's, women's, and children's clothing, shoes from top brands, and even electrical
goods at the Vinnies pop-up locations. 

Many have purchased vacuums, air fryers, Adidas shoes, printers, and kitchen knives from previous pop-up shops. 

There is presently a location in Ascot Vale which is open until 3 November, and another in Boronia which will remain open until Christmas - or until stock runs out.

A new store will open in Richmond at Dimmey's on 7 November. 

The themed Richmond location will focus on goods for Christmas, summer,

locations online.

'They have all the trending products - it's so awesome,' one said.

'I bought a hair dryer from Vinnies and I'm obsessed with it,' another wrote.

'I always have such good luck at Vinnies, I have to go,' a
woman added.

For those interested in the finer things, shoppers have discovered a 'hidden gem' discount retailer where you can find
designer buys from brands like Fendi, Dior, and Aje for affordable prices.



TK Maxx - which has stores in New South Wales,
Victoria, Queensland and South Australia - is the answer to buying
new clothes and shoes on a budget.

Beth Zazlan, from Queensland, recently found a gold mine of clothing lines from Australian brands like Camilla and Marc,

'I was there for a pillow but I ended up grabbing some sparkly earrings from [American jewellery brand] Badgley Mischka,' Beth told FEMAIL.


TK Maxx sells old stock from previous seasons - and shoppers
have described it as a 'clearance treasure hunt'.


Many have seen bags from Fendi, Dior, and
Bottega Venetta on sale.

Others have spotted Gucci and Versace sunglasses, Hugo Boss accessories,
and Christopher Esber dresses.


Beth said, 'I was truly blown away - so if you're looking
for a bargain, head there.'

A David Jones employee revealed in a comment that discounted items
from stores that aren't sold are shipped to TK Maxx.

US pop star Lady Gaga has taken on a track known best
to Aussies as the opening theme to the iconic comedy series Kath &
Kim.

The song, originally written by Leslie Bricusse and
Anthony Newley for the 1964 stage musical The Roar Of
The Greasepaint - The Smell Of The Crowd, is performed by Gaga for her film Joker:
Folie à Deux.

To most Australians, it is the bold and brassy version sung by Gina Riley,
who also plays Kimberly Diane 'Kim' Craig (née Day) in the legendary
comedy.

Before being immortalised in to the fabric of Australian pop culture, thanks to Gina's  rendition, the song had
been covered by the likes of Shirley Bassey in 1968 and
Sammy Davis Jr in 1965.

And now, the Born This Way hitmaker has taken a stab at the track - with the results markedly different to the brassy feel of the Kath & Kim version.

Gaga's take, which also features on her new album Harlequin, is a much more  stripped back
that builds to a crescendo thanks to rocking guitars.



Speaking to Today Extra about the track, Kath & Kim
star Peter Rowsthorn joked that he was 'constantly' hounded by the US pop star regarding the track.


'She's constantly calling me, so I know she's a big fan,'
Pete, who play's Kim's on-again-off-again husband Brett in the series, said.

'I said to Gaga, "If you want to do it, it's up to you. I'm the fifth banana in this thing".'

Peter went on to mention that he did have a favourite
between the two renditions.

'I believe the Gina Riley version, or the "Kim" version, is the better version.' 

The Today Show posted a short clip featuring the Gaga's version over the Kath
and Kim title sequence to Instagram and viewers were quick to issue their shock at the surprising cover version.

While some were quick to point out Shirley Bassey's famous version, one fan said the song would always belong
to Kath and Kim.

'Who cares about Shirley it's iconic because it's the Kath and Kim
theme song,' they wrote.

'I cannot take Gaga seriously with this song hahahaha.' 

Another did not hold back in their criticism of the Poke Face singer
with: 'Totally sucks. Another flop of an album from Gaga.

She'll probably ruin joker sequel too.'

Joker in the psychological thriller musical.
